Weekend Wisdom: Our Creativity
The possible demands most of us, demands our creativity, demands our imagination. -Grace Lee Boggs
The context of this quote from Grace Lee Boggs, a Chinese American activist from Detroit (my hometown), is revolutionary change and social justice.
Creativity is about so much more than artistic expression. Certainly, the creative impulse is powerfully expressed in music, dance, art, writing and more. While I think there are certainly those with gifts (our beloved creatives), I believe strongly that everyone has the capacity for creativity. We need to spark and nurture the creative energy that we all have. When I hear people say "I'm not creative", I always want to gently challenge this declaration. Creativity can show up in so many ways-- from athletics to cooking to fixing things to teaching to brainstorming ideas to organizing a drawer.
We must draw upon our creativity in the service of liberation. Creativity facilitates healing and is a necessary part of making meaningful systemic and revolutionary change.
Vision + Creativity + Action = Transformative Change
